About Greenways-Africa

Africa building Africa — sustainably, scientifically, together.

Greenways-Africa is an independent African consortium of engineers, scientists, universities, industry leaders and community partners. We convene the delivery capacity Africa needs to accelerate climate resilience, green energy, food security, resilient cities and inclusive economic growth.

Foundations

Mission, vision and values

A shared purpose that guides every mandate, partnership and project we take on across the continent.

Mission

Accelerate Africa's green transition

Deliver world-class engineering, applied research and advisory services that unlock climate-resilient, low-carbon infrastructure and inclusive prosperity across Africa.

Vision

A green, resilient, sovereign Africa

A continent whose people, ecosystems and economies thrive — powered by African science, engineering and enterprise, in partnership with the world.

Values

Excellence, integrity, impact

Rigorous practice, transparent governance, measurable outcomes, and deep respect for the communities, cultures and landscapes we serve.

What we do

Five pillars, one continental agenda

01

Green energy

Solar, wind, hydro, geothermal and off-grid systems designed for African contexts.

02

Climate resilience

Adaptation planning, nature-based solutions and resilient infrastructure.

03

Food security

Precision agriculture, water systems and inclusive agri-value chains.

04

Resilient cities

Smart mobility, housing, sanitation and low-carbon urban systems.

05

Youth & women

Skills, enterprise and leadership pathways that power the transition.

Governance

Independent, accountable, African-led

Greenways-Africa is governed to international standards. An African-led Board sets direction; independent councils safeguard scientific, engineering and ethical rigor.

Board of Directors

Strategic direction, appointments, financial oversight and continental representation.

Scientific Council

Independent peer review of research programmes, publications and methods.

Engineering Board

Technical standards, quality assurance and design review for every mandate.

Ethics Committee

Integrity, safeguarding, conflicts of interest and responsible conduct of research.

Regional Assemblies

Six regional hubs convene members, partners and communities for local direction.

Youth & Gender Council

Ensures youth and women's leadership across programmes, hiring and governance.

Community Advisory Panels

Project-level panels give affected communities a formal voice in design and delivery.

External Audit

Annual independent financial and programmatic audit against international standards.

How we operate

Principles of practice

African-led

Priorities, leadership and delivery are anchored in African institutions and communities.

Evidence-based

Every recommendation is grounded in data, peer review and open methodology.

Open by default

Research, tools and datasets are shared as public goods where possible.

Locally rooted, globally connected

Regional hubs partner with global institutions on equal terms.

Inclusive delivery

Youth, women and community voice are structural, not optional.

Do-no-harm

Environmental, social and governance safeguards apply to every mandate.

Global collaboration

How we work with partners around the world

We collaborate on equal terms with continental institutions, multilateral agencies, universities, industry and civil society — with African priorities and African leadership at the centre.

Continental partners

African Union, AUDA-NEPAD, AfDB, UNECA, regional economic communities and national ministries — aligning our work with Agenda 2063 and national development plans.

Universities & research

Joint labs, exchanges and co-authored research with leading African and international universities, from Cape Town to Cairo, Nairobi to Kigali, and partner institutions in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Multilateral & development

Programmatic collaboration with UN agencies, the World Bank, EU, GIZ, AFD, FCDO, JICA, KOICA and climate funds — always co-designed with local partners.

Industry & investors

Engineering firms, energy operators, agri-processors, mobility providers and impact investors — building bankable projects with measurable outcomes.

Civil society & communities

Community advisory panels, youth networks, women's cooperatives and NGOs shape design, delivery and accountability.

Peer consortia

Twinning with peer consortia globally to exchange standards, tools and talent.

Ways to engage

Four modes of collaboration

01

Joint programmes

Multi-year research and delivery programmes co-designed with continental and global partners.

02
